Reading Rainbow Contest
KCTS 9 Kids & Family is proud to present the 14th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. This competition encourages children in kindergarten through third grades to create their own original picture books. "This contest invites children to open their minds and explore their world in an exciting and creative way," says LeVar Burton, host of Reading Rainbow.
This year's exceptional stories were selected by a panel of local teachers and librarians from nearly 700 submissions by children in Washington state and British Columbia. Local winners will receive a prize package of Reading Rainbow books, DVDs, a backpack, art supplies and games, and will have an opportunity to record their story for broadcast on KCTS 9. First-place stories will also move forward to the national competition.
Because our goal is to encourage and reward effort, every child is recognized for their participation with a Certificate of Achievement signed by LeVar Burton.
