The 1999 Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Awards contest attracted more than 1,200 entries from kindergarteners through third graders in Washington state and British Columbia. Eleven finalists were chosen in each grade category, and one entry from each grade level was submitted to the national competition. Our hats are off to Brigid, a first-grader from Washington, who received a local Reading Rainbow award for the second consecutive year.
